八年前，王进和丁玉广同时进的毛纺厂，又同时做了杨师傅的关门徒弟。故事开始的时候，杨师傅早已退休，王进已经在厂销售科干了好几年的销售，丁玉广则成了厂里的工程师。两个人都特别上进，而且又都喜欢上了师傅的女儿杨溪。 　　杨师傅对两个关门徒弟都很喜欢，师母更喜欢丁玉广，总觉得女儿将来和丁生活在一起才让人踏实。但师母意外地发现，杨溪却已经跟同住老院子里的王进“私订”了终身。 　　毛纺厂产品结构老化，近几年来效益一直不好。丁玉广从技改的角度研发了一种新型产品，但因为缺乏足够资金不能投入试生产。 　　王进则费了好大的劲，找到一家有投资意向的经销商。而就是为了拿下这个经销商，王进阴差阳错地身陷囹圄，继而又身败名裂。不得已憋着一口气远走它乡，企望出人头地后洗刷掉自己身上的所有污浊。杨溪不理解王进的行为，两人性格、生活观念上的差异让杨溪对王进彻底失去了信心。 　　七年后...。One day, thinking that it will make your wife and friends smile, you shave off the moustache that you have had for the last ten years. Viewers who like their conclusions tidy may rebel, but those who relish outstanding performances in the service of an intriguing idea will be entertained.
